Portal (Blackboard) Help

Portal (Blackboard) is the University of Toronto's instutionally supported, web-based course management system that is used to deliver lectures, notes, assignments,and other materials, communicate with students, and perform other functions. This is the system you can use to share course materials with your students. Blackboard is integrated with ACORN/ROSI (UofT's student information system). The log-in page will also contain important announcements from the University.

NEW - As of May 8, 2017 new Blackboard functionalities include:

  • Uploading files using drag and drop.
  • Providing submission receipts (which include date, time and file information) to students for their online assignments.
  • Sending reminders from the Grade Center to students who have not completed assignments or tests.

Please note that the Chat and Virtual Classroom tools are no longer available. We recommend that you use Blackboard Collaborate for synchronous activities and feel free to contact us if you require assistance to set it up or use it.

Course Setup

The assignment tool in Blackboard allows students to submit written assignments directly within Blackboard. Find out how to create and grade an assignment and how to use advance tools such as Inline Grading and the Blackboard Turnitin Integration.

Tests and Surveys
You can use Blackboard to run quizzes/tests and surveys in your course.

Grade Center
The Grade Center can help you collect and organize student grades and feedback, and share this information with students.
